Turning fat into muscle is one of the most spread myths in fitness. Muscles and fat are two different types of entities. Donkeys can't become horses, nor horses - donkey. So today let's burst this myth once and for all. Muscles can not and does not turn into fat when you stop working out. simple reason is - Human physiology does not allow it. There is no process in the body that turns fat into muscle. fat cells and muscle cells are totally different, and one simply does not turn into other. Yes, your muscles can not turn into fat when you stop working out.
Let's Discuss How Fat Burning Works
Fat burning happens in the body constantly. Fat is the fuel source for your body. And another fuel or energy source for our body is carbs ( carbohydrate ). but our body does not pick one or the other 100% with some exceptions.
If your body needs sudden energy, then it is very efficient and easier to turn carbs into glucose which can be further used for energy or fuel. For example, if you are doing squats or you are running a quick sprint, body uses carbohydrates almost exclusively for energy source.
but in other situation, if you are just walking slowly and you have not eaten any carbs in your recent time then your body will prefer to burn fat. However, just because your body is burning fat for you at a given time, does not mean you are losing fat or weight at all.
So, Can you build muscle and burn fat at the same time?
Well, simple answer is - YES. But you can not turn fat into muscle. you can burn fat and build muscle at same time. Your body can use your fat as fuel source and use that in your workouts. So indirectly, you will lose fat but build muscle at the same time. because your body will be using fat as energy and you will build muscles because of your workouts.
